Most Madridis look good; most have no prominent paunches, but that’s not the point. What matters is that they are very gentle. If you are crossing the road, they stop their cars even if the traffic light is green. They are also very open in expressing their sentiments. If they want to hug or kiss their lovers, they just do it, wherever they are. Madridis are also very affectionate with their non-romantic partners. If someone is walking with his parent or friend, most likely they would have their arms interlocked. Also, Madridis read a lot – in buses, metro, parks and cafes. These are sights rarely seen in Delhi. Besides, unlike us Delhiwallas, Madridis do not object to being photographed. Here are a few portraits of the truly beautiful Madridis.

  2. Mayank, these photos show so much talent! I am impressed by how easily you make people open up to you. Enjoy every minute in Madrid. x Erik

  3. Your world seems pint-sized. It’s not the Spanish people only who are or seem so nice and unprejudiced in contrary to the Asians/Indians; people in almost every European country are like this and that’s why it’s a great experience travelling through Europe or for that matter any Western country. There is a big contrast between Asia and Europe in almost everything.

Since you are in Europe, try visiting Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London etc. too. I have been around in Europe as I live in Amsterdam.

  4. Mayank I agree with the above post. It’s not just Madridis that are kind and gentle, and cultured in good behaviour, but almost all Europeans are the same. In fact, I would go further and state that Northern Europeans, i.e. Swedish, Danish, English, German are even more polite and cultured. Now that you are in Europe, go and take a train to Paris, London, Berlin, Rome. You will see how they are evn more stylish and sophisticated.

  5. Mayank,

the people whose pictures u took are not Ostentatious..they are look so natural ,free spirit.and carry themselves so naturally

However at least the picture of the butcher in the spain and the butcher of Nizamuddin both of them look free spirit 🙂 🙂

  6. Hey, BTW Spanish and Italians are considered to be least polite and worse mannered and least developed in europe (same way like biharis to India, they are to europe)!!! and their traffic is most disorganized in western Europe. try going bit north like from France and up and then see the difference.

  7. why do comparisons, i will say better do some good work and make delhi a better place, people in delhi are more warm, more considerate, more empathetic then many big megalapolis of the world.

Sure, in chicago or newyork downtown any street goer would oblige you by taking a snap of yours against brooklyn, but very few will ever come to you and talk to you about your country, a casual chit-chat concerning the family etc… they talk about fashion, gossip about drinks and are scared of getting out of their cosy and comfort zones.

  8. but then, i will not say anything. I hate comparison and so it made me bit nostalgic and defensive for my delhi.

your post title is about madrid and its beautiful people, so be it. but as delhi wala i take pride in appreciating others and at the same time proud to be a good delheite who stands for his city and cares + contributes as well

  9. Well, what you experienced is common thru out the “civilized” world. To be honest I’m South Africa originally then moved to US but really I noticed very few differences in the politeness, proper etiquette and courtesy of the locals. I traveled to India awhile back and had very bad experiences like could not take pics in certain places, people kept staring at me, general ignorance in public, etc just to name a few. I think there needs to be a revolution or something that can change Indian peoples coz it cant continue like this otherwise you will loose millions of tourists.
