The Delhi Walla

Photo Essay 2010 – In Search of Lost Time

On the New Year’s eve.

[Text and pictures by Mayank Austen Soofi]

In 2009, The Delhi Walla captured a few Delhiwallas while they were searching for the lost time.

There they were – in Connaught Place, Nizamuddin Basti, Chitli Qabar, GB Road, Matia Mahal, KG Marg, Khan Market, Chandni Chowk, Humayun’s Tomb, GB Road, ITO… They looked as if they had drifted back into an earlier stage of their life, now forever outgrown, never to return.

It was as if they had become indifferent to the existence of the Present. They had grown detached. They had transported themselves to some other city. In this nostalgic state, they seemed more vulnerable than a slaughter-house chicken. But then the consciousness flashed like a lightning and brought them up out of the blackness of the Past and placed them into where they were – in Connaught Place, Nizamuddin Basti, Chitli Qabar, GB Road, Matia Mahal, KG Marg, Khan Market, Chandni Chowk, Humayun’s Tomb, GB Road, ITO… And they were Delhiwallas again.
