Photo Essay – Believe It or Not, Janpath

Strange encounters in the city.

[Text and pictures by Mayank Austen Soofi]

It was over in a minute. The Delhi Walla was outside McDonald’s in Janpath, Connaught Place. The traffic light turned red. The cars halted. One was a silver-colored monster, unbelievably long as if Godzilla had stretched it himself. A girl rushed out of the burger joint and exclaimed, “That’s a stretched limo!” Two child beggars went close to the car and tried to see through the dark windows. “Amitabh Bachchan!” one of them shouted referring to Bollywood’s biggest star. “Fool, it’s Obama,” said the other. The boys stepped back to take in the giant’s full scope. Just then the light turned green and the car went away.

For real?

  1. Who’s inside? Maybe a gaggle of American teenagers who got REALLY lost on the way to their high school prom? Did you catch a glimpse of turquoise tuxedo, by any chance?

Manika Dhama ‎@ajit: oh lets not get started on the colossal shame of losing trees over mindless texts. for the delhiwalla with 5 blogs, we should allow more than 3 books 🙂

when the year starts with being dead right about eddie vedder on an obscure soundtrack, it’s all uphill from there (even when it’s tainted by a runny nose and funky throat-infection voice)

bathing at midnight on a night like this.
when the cat lies curled up in the quilt.
the fog that enters all but the mind.
    myriad musings trapped in time.
and life that has upset itself over a rhyme.
