City Moment – Veiled Biker, India Gate Circle

City Moment – Veiled Biker, India Gate Circle

The beautiful Delhi instant.

[Text and photos by Mayank Austen Soofi]

One afternoon The Delhi Walla was walking on the circular road built around the India Gate maidan.

Just after crossing the turning to Shahjahanan Road, I saw a woman riding a scooter. Dressed in a burqa, she was without helmet.

I quickly hailed an auto rickshaw and asked the driver to follow her.

The woman’s face was hidden behind a veil, though her eyes were uncovered. She was wearing brown strapped sandals.

I observed her speeding past the Jodhpur Officers Hostel. The next moment she was inching close towards a biker.

She was unaware that she was being followed.

As we stopped at the Pandara Road traffic light, she turned her head and discovered me looking at her. She lowered her eyes and seemed to frown. It was a beautiful moment.

  1. Hi,
Im a regular reader of your writing and i think you’re doing a fantastic job.
This time however i think you are kind of crossing the line, unless you took her permission to post this.

  2. Quick tip: blur out the number plates in your photos to maintain the privacy of your prey… er, subjects.

Your hunger and persistence for the perfect photo of the perfect subject is admirable. How much did you pay the scooterwallah? Did he haggle?

  3. well, I never! A Ninja on a scooter!
Mayank, she looks annoyed in photo no.5. Are you sure she didn’t use her neat Ninja moves to knock the living daylights out of you?

    1. ‘A Ninja on a scooter’????? And I thought you were educated, clearly not!! What a shame, behind all those crafted long English words that you so overly overuse, you’re just are an Indian moron!
Kudos to this sister and many others who continue to break barriers and make closed minds re-think. Alhumdulilla

    2. Actually, now that you mention it, she does look like a Ninja! Thank you for opening my mind and rethinking my impressions of the photo.

    3. lol @Ehsaan Meer ‘Ali Jahaan ….come on, that was a bit of humor. You know what, this is exactly how religion makes people into arid, unthinking minions.
as for making “closed minds re-think”,dude, are you serious? Pardon my Indian moronity, but since when did a burqa become a symbol of liberation(and from what)? Get your head out of religious propaganda and step out into the clear light of logic, reason, humanism and science.
