He was listening to the radio the way we watch TV.
One hot sweaty morning The Delhi Walla spotted a rickshaw puller in Old Delhi’s Galli Chooriwallan. The elderly man was barefoot and was lounging on the passenger seat of his rickshaw. He was holding a grey radio. Its antenna drawn out to its full length, the radio was broadcasting a Hindi play on full volume.
The rickshaw-puller was so involved in the play that he would not look up at the passers-by.
Suddenly a character in the play thundered a dialogue seemingly full of comical implications. The rickshaw-puller lit up into a giggle. It was a beautiful moment.
