Photo Essay – Bakra Eid Goats, Old Delhi

Our dear departed souls.

[Text and photos by Mayank Austen Soofi]

These goats will die tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Muslim festival of Eid ul Zuha, or Bakra Eid, in which animals are sacrificed to commemorate the legend of a devout man’s complete surrender to his God.

Once again the streets in Old Delhi are alive with soon-to-be-dead goats. But this time some of these goats will continue to live at least on the pages of The Delhi Walla.

  1. Animal sacrifice for the anti-rationality superstition called religion, or any other purpose is sad, cruel, barbaric … 🙁

We could see the sadness in the eyes of these innocent goats.

And what kind of parents will let their kids handle the about-to-be-killed goats. Ingraining the cruelty at young-age.

    Sad sight.

    1. “And what kind of parents will let their kids handle the about-to-be-killed goats. Ingraining the cruelty at young-age.” That kind is the stuff of beheadings in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria.

  2. A guy attempting to gut his kid because he heard the voice of god would totally end up in a psych ward today.

  3. I hope younger generations will have more sense in their heads when it comes to killing animals for such causes

  4. I am completely against the barbaric practice of animal sacrifices, least of all for religious reasons.
