City Notice – The Delhi Proustians XXIX, Outside Wenger’s

In Search of Lost Time

A la recherche du temps perdu.

[By Mayank Austen Soofi]

The Delhi Walla regrets to inform that the 29th meeting of The Delhi Proustians, a club for Delhiwallas that discusses French novelist Marcel Proust, could not take place as scheduled. While on my way to the venue, an anonymous Proustian in the metro train stole my leather-bound Moleskine writing pad along with my copy of Marcel’s In Search of Lost Time.

Somewhere in his vast novel, Proust says that after a thief commits the crime, he is convinced that a certain interval of time, capable of being indefinitely prolonged, will be allowed before he is caught. I wish my thief is never caught.

The 29th meeting of The Delhi Proustians takes place on 8th October 2012.

  1. The thief has gotten themselves in for more than they bargained for- a life changing experience, if they choose to read what they stole. Alas for you, however.

  2. Who would do such a thing? I have never heard of thieves making off with writing-pads and novels. Could it have been a bibliomaniac? Or perhaps a creepy ‘secret admirer’?

  3. Maybe it’s just lost. Report it to the lost and found in the metro. NOT to the police. NEVER to the police. They’ll just hold you up for hours and later tag you as a suspicious person.
