City Book – Nobody Can Love You More, First Paperback Edition

On Delhi’s red light district.

[By Mayank Austen Soofi]

Hot off the press. In February 2014, Penguin Books India published the first paperback edition of Nobody Can Love You More: Life in Delhi’s Red Light District, a book by The Delhi Walla that first arrived in the world in a hardbound format.

Here is the book’s description as seen on its back cover:

The sex workers of Kotha No. 300 raise their children, cook for their lovers, visit temples, shrines and mosques, complain about pimps and brothel owners, listen to film songs, and solicit and entertain customers.

By following the daily lives of the denizens of one kotha, Mayank Austen Soofi paints an intimate portrait of women for whom sex is work—a way to make a living.

With precise details and haunting photographs, Soofi delicately and carefully etches the everyday world of those who inhabit the peripheries of society.

Priced at Rs 299, the book is available on shopping websites as well as in bookstores across India.

  1. Bravo! I love your book. I presented it to a friend and she was “enthralled”.

Mayank, have you planned anything for the World Book Fair ( book signing etc.)? DO let us know.

    1. Thank you, Naushirvan. You are such a nice and attentive reader of so many of my pieces. You just have to name the place, date and time, and I will reach there to present you a signed copy of Nobody…

    2. The organizers of the book fair have instituted something called the ‘authors’ corner’. You could arrange for a session there. We would love to hear you talk about the book.
