Pakistan Diary – Travels in My Country

The Delhi Walla in the fatherland.

[Text and pictures by Mayank Austen Soofi]

The Delhi Walla traveled for nine days in Pakistan. I consider it my own country in a way that’s difficult to understand by those whose comprehension of a land and its people is defined by passports and territories. Obviously, my account of this trip cannot be impartial. I saw what I wanted to see. I heard what I was willing to hear. This is my Pakistan. Your Pakistan will be different. To understand it better, you will have to make your own journey. Khuda Hafiz.

  1. Loved your musings about your stay in your own land 🙂 :), especially at home in Lahore and Karachi kartography…

  2. i too tried to discover pakistan through ur writings n pictures n was pleasantly surprised to see something different than the preconceived notion about the country!

  3. Wow! MAS……………. just when I thought we were getting monotonous, you spring a surprise. So few words, so much meaning………….. your words "Obviously, my account of this trip cannot be impartial. I saw what I wanted to see. I heard what I was willing to hear. This is my Pakistan. Your Pakistan will be different"……….. so true …………. so philosophical ……. so many interpretations of your your words…. well done again

  4. Now we are talking. You can have 'your Pakistan' but don't deceive your readers. In any case, people who have visited Pakistan know the reality very well, probably better than highly compassionate journalists like you. Since you know so many Pakistanis, how come you couldn’t find even one journalist who projected a positive picture of India in their country? You are just a pagan for your 'fatherland' unless you have already given up your paganism for the great Islam.

  5. I'm totally speechless… Just don't have words to express myself. All I would say is that I simply loved each and every bit of Pakistan Diary. It was wonderful to get an insight into the place my grandparents came from, the place where my roots are embedded. Thanks a million 🙂

  6. Excellent account of a trip to Pakistan, Mayank. I really enjoyed reading every bit of your experience.I have been reading many of your posts about quaint little corners of Delhi and am really enjoying it. It's great to see the world through your curious, compassionate eyes. A completely new and enriching perspective. You have a new fan..

  7. I read the whole series, and mashAllah, it was g8.the only sore point would be Mr. Anonymous' annoying comments. if you hate Pakistan so much, why do you even bother to read Pak-related blogs? people can survive without your shit-worthy musings.and oh, an Indian, if you wanted to know.
